Being a social worker is one of the hardest jobs.

In Holding Hadleigh, RAPTOR book two, Hadleigh Waterson is a social worker. She wants to help kids. She wants them to grow up in good families and become well adjusted adults and she works hard to make that happen.

Then, she finds out things aren’t as they seem in one of her households. It’s one of her best households. Or, so she thought. Hadleigh is devastated and frustrated when she realizes what’s happening and she is forced to wait to collect the proper evidence so it can be stopped, not just temporarily but for good.

I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to be a social worker. I can’t imagine how frustrating, exhausting and sad to see these kids shuffle from home to home and without stability. It’s heartbreaking.

That’s why I wrote Hadleigh as a social worker. It doesn’t have a huge impact on the world at large, but I sure hope in some small way, it makes a little difference.
