With more than fifty books to choose from, I know opening my Books page for the first time can be a little overwhelming.
So when a new reader comes up to me at a book signing and asks, “Which book should I start with?” I usually answer with a question of my own.
What do you like to read?
Do you love former military heroes and special operatives?
Small towns where everybody knows everybody and characters become old friends?
Motorcycles, but without the outlaw biker clubs?
Covert operatives working behind the scenes?
Tell me what you love, and I can usually point you in the right direction.
So let’s do the same thing here.
If You Love Former Military Heroes and Special Operatives…
Start with Lynyrd Station Protectors – Security.
This is a great place to begin if your favorite romantic suspense heroes are former military men who have taken their skills into civilian life and still have that instinct to protect.
And if you fall in love with the Lynyrd Station world, there’s plenty more waiting for you. The universe continues through Special Ops, Trafficking, and Legacy.
You’ll meet new couples along the way, see familiar faces again and watch the world grow from one series into the next.
Start with: Finding His Fire
If You Love Small Towns and Interconnected Characters…
Come to Blossom Springs, Florida.
I’d start you with Warriors of Blossom Springs.
Blossom Springs is filled with the things I love about small-town romance: familiar gathering places, friendships, characters whose lives cross from one story to another, and the feeling that this isn’t simply where these people live.
It’s home.
Of course, because I write romantic suspense, life in Blossom Springs isn’t always quite as peaceful as the palm trees and beautiful Florida weather might suggest.
Once you’re there, you can also explore the musicians of Rogue Anthem, the covert operatives of Shadow Ops, and eventually Shadow Ops Guardians.
Start with: Steamy Nights
If You Love Covert Operatives and Secrets…
You have choices.
If you want covert operations as part of the larger Lynyrd Station world, you’ll find plenty to love there.
But if the idea of a secret team investigating danger beneath the surface of an otherwise idyllic Florida community grabs you, I’d send you to Blossom Springs: Shadow Ops.
Six operatives. Six different specialties. Six romances. And one investigation that grows across the series.
The people of Blossom Springs don’t even know this team exists.
That’s rather the point.
Start with: In the Shadows
If You Love Motorcycles, But Not Outlaw Bikers…
This is something readers ask me about often enough that I make the distinction.
I love motorcycles. I ride myself.
But my motorcycle books aren’t about outlaw biker clubs.
If you want motorcycles combined with family, romance, suspense and everyday heroes, I’d point you toward Rolling Thunder or Copper Moon.
Rolling Thunder
Rolling Thunder takes you into a Wisconsin motorcycle family. The bikes are part of their lives, but family and relationships are at the heart of the series.
Start with: Moving to Love
Copper Moon
If you’d rather combine motorcycles with a coastal South Carolina setting, Copper Moon is a shorter three-book series centered around Bay Harbor Motors & Studio.
It’s also a nice choice if you’re looking for something you can binge relatively quickly.
Start with: Hank
If You Love Second-Chance Romance…
Sometimes love deserves another chance.
My Second Chances series is for readers who love mature characters with history, emotional baggage, and a chance to find the love and happiness they may have thought had passed them by.
With just two books, it’s also a great choice if you’re looking for a shorter romantic suspense series to settle into without committing to one of my larger worlds.
Start with: Designing Samantha’s Love
If You Want a Shorter Series to Binge…
Sometimes you don’t want to commit to a sprawling universe. You want to grab a few books and spend a weekend reading.
I understand completely.
Copper Moon gives you three romantic suspense stories set in coastal South Carolina.
Bluegrass Security gives you four standalone romantic suspense novellas.
Second Chances gives you characters later in life finding love after loss and finding a long-lost lover.
All are complete, so you can settle in and read straight through without waiting for another book.
If Rock Stars Are Your Weakness…
I’ve got you covered.
Blossom Springs: Rogue Anthem follows Hart & the Hurricanes and brings music into the world of Blossom Springs.
There’s romance, friendship, family and plenty happening behind the scenes as these musicians build their lives and relationships.
And yes, you may recognize a few people and places if you’ve already spent time in Blossom Springs.
Start with: Don’t Stop Believin’
Do I Have to Read PJ Fiala’s Books in Order?
Here’s the important part:
You don’t have to start at the beginning of my entire catalog.
Pick the world that sounds most like you.
Within the larger interconnected series and universes, I do think you’ll get the richest experience by starting with the first book and reading forward. You’ll watch relationships develop, recognize returning characters and see storylines build naturally.
But you certainly don’t need to read Lynyrd Station before visiting Blossom Springs, or Rolling Thunder before Copper Moon.
They’re different worlds.
Choose the one that makes you want to start reading.
Still Not Sure Where to Start?
Then I’ll ask you the same question I’d ask if you walked up to my table at a book signing:
What do you love to read?
Former military and special operatives?
→ Lynyrd Station Protectors – Security
Small towns and interconnected characters?
→ Warriors of Blossom Springs
Covert operations and secrets?
→ Blossom Springs: Shadow Ops
Motorcycles and everyday heroes?
→ Rolling Thunder or Copper Moon
Rock stars and musicians?
→ Blossom Springs: Rogue Anthem
A shorter series you can binge?
→ Copper Moon or Bluegrass Security
Second chances and mature romance?
→ Second Chances
There isn’t one right place to start with my books.
There’s just the right place for you.
And once you find it, I hope you’ll stay awhile.
