Little Garden Spruce Ups

This year Gene and I were busy landscaping.  We helped two of our kids with the landscaping at their houses and then we cleaned up our own landscaping and freshened up the plants and chips.

But, something I love is just what happened this week.  We live in Wisconsin and its the end of summer for us here.  The weather is already turning colder and the leaves have just begun turning.

What that means is that the garden centers are getting rid of their summer items.  And that’s how we scored this week.

Gene wIMAG2036as walking through Menards this week, a local home improvement center, and in their garden section, they had a fountain on sale.  We’d seen this fountain earlier this year and the list price on it was $198.00.  We didn’t love it quite that much.  So we passed.  Now, however, this fountain was marked down to $98.00, now we loved it a whole lot more.  He called and asked if he should pick it up and I was onboard.  When he checked out, it was marked down even further, to $69.00.  Now we were giggling at the deal we’d gotten.

What do you think, good deal?

Rocking ChairThe other low cost thing I did for our landscaping was taking an old rocking chair my son had found and was going to throw away and I spray painted it white with some cans of spray paint I had in the garage and put it in the landscaping with a plant on the seat.  I love how it looks and it didn’t cost me anything.

What have you done on a budget that you’d love to share with us?

  1. I like the rocking chair and fountain. Looks like a lovely place to read a book before it gets to cold. I work in Wisconsin occasionally and have no idea how anything survives the winter.
