*****
Many, many eons ago, forty-six to be exact, I went on my first date with a guy I’d met in college. It was homecoming eve and he took me out to dinner. There was a “small,” incident with a bottle of steak sauce during our meal, an incident that was so mortifying, I’m surprise he asked me out again. (Which he did. We’ve been married for over forty-three years.)
It took me a long time to get over the embarrassment, until I was finally able to tell the story to friends and acquaintances. When I started writing, one of the first stories I wrote included this incident. This was in 1996. I set the story aside, but it kept niggling in my mind, until about a year ago, I finally pulled it out, rewrote, polished, and submitted it to my editor. “Never With a Rich Man” is now up for pre-sale on Amazon and will be released on November 2nd.
In the story, Hogan and Cassie go to dinner at a high-class restaurant in Milwaukee. In real life, Al and I, being college students, went to a place called The Big Steer. Being a couple of farm kids, we thought it was pretty fancy, but we now know it was just a family restaurant.
Blurb: Cassie Jordan has been lied to, cheated on, and passed over for a promotion. All by men. She was tired of men. She didn’t need a man, and certainly not a rich man. Then she met Hogan Wynnters, and ordinary salesman – or so she thought.
Hogan Wynnters is part owner of a family business and has the kind of money Cassie despises. He’s tired of women coming on to him because he’s rich. He decides to never tell a woman about his financial status until she gets to know him as a person. As an undercover FBI agent, he uses his knowledge of antiquities to find the people who are bringing stolen WWII artifacts into the country. Unfortunately, the woman he’s falling for is in the crosshairs of the FBI.
Can they work through their preconceived notions and find true love?

No! I’m a procrastinator when it comes to Christmas Shopping!!
Thanks for the chance!!
Sometimes that’s when you get the best deals.
Heavens No! I haven’t had the time or money yet.
Ha – I don’t think you’re alone and I’ll add inclination to your list.
I haven’t started Christmas shopping yet.After Thanksgiving I will.
That’s when I’ll focus on it.
No…it’s just me and my hubbie so it’s easy to shop.?
Oh, yeah, I bet it is. Nice.
I haven’t even thought about starting my Christmas shopping yet! Well…not true…I think about it! Think about how I’m going to afford it! LOL! Second semester college tuition for my daughter is due a week before Christmas! Ugh!
That’s a terrible time for college tuition to be due. Shame on them, they could certainly do that better.
Last year it was supposed to be due on January 11th and they sent an email saying that “because parents wanted to be able to see the bills earlier, they were sending them out early” but also changed the due date to December 18th! Same thing this year! It definitely makes things a bit rough!
Oh, I’d say so. And, who wants that right before the holidays?? Blech.
I haven’t exactly started to get my shopping started yet. I’ve started to get some things together and ideas together for nice, easy, and cheap homemade gifts.
I would like to win this partly because its set in my home state and birth town.
Awesome. Thanks Amanda.
YES I AM HALF WAY FINISHED WITH MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.
Wow, good for you! I bought 1 thing so far, so I’m started.
